This month, New Brunswick firefighters will be wearing pink on the job.

Members of the New Brunswick Fire Department are selling breast cancer awareness shirts as part of a fundraiser to help fight breast cancer.

All proceeds benefit the Sisters Network of Central New Jersey, a nonprofit group based in the Somerset section of Franklin.

The organization offers support and advocacy to African-American women who have breast cancer.

“The men and women of our fire department have seen breast cancer affect the lives of their mothers, sisters, wives, friends and neighbors,” Fire Director Robert Rawls said in a prepared statement. “The Sisters Network is a great local group that works tirelessly to assist and advocate for women dealing with this disease and we’re proud to support the excellent work that they do.”

The president of the nonprofit group said she was thankful for the help.

“We’re so happy that the New Brunswick Fire Department has gotten on board with breast cancer awareness and will be donating funds to the Sisters Network,” Dorothy Reed, president of the Sisters Network of Central New Jersey said in a prepared statement. “We raise money and give it back to the women in our community and these donations will help many women in their time of need. We thank the New Brunswick Fire Department so much.”
