New Brunswick Police Investigating Off-Campus Assault

The victim was assaulted "with a sharp object" on College Avenue in New Brunswick early Sunday morning, police said.

New Brunswick police are investigating an off-campus assault that left a man with injuries, authorities said.

According to an alert from Rutgers police:

Around 1:50 a.m. Sunday, the victim, who is affiliated with Rutgers, and his friends got into a fight with another group in the area behind 18 College Avenue in the city.

“During the encounter, the victim was assaulted with a sharp object and received a non-life threatening injury which required treatment at a local hospital,” the alert said.

One of the attackers is described as a white man who was between 24- and 26-years-old, and had a beard and a ponytail pulled back into a bun. He wore a “varsity” style jacket.
