A small winter storm may hit Thursday night. Temps will then warm up to the 40s Friday before we brace for a second snowstorm Saturday.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — South Brunswick police say they are monitoring a small winter storm that may affect the area on Thursday night. Temps will then warm up to the 40s on Friday before the area braces for a second snowstorm to hit Saturday afternoon/evening.

The weather forecast as of Wednesday morning, Jan. 16: Periods of light snow Thursday night. The next couple daytimes are quiet weather-wise, with a possible snow event Thursday evening.

This is a west-to-east moving system that produces light precipitation Thursday night and departs around daybreak Friday, South Brunswick police said in a Nixle alert.

"It's high confidence that our area sees this precipitation and we are cold enough for it to nearly be all snow (any mixing with rain likely is confined to areas just to the southeast). Watch for coverings on all surfaces given that it is night and below freezing," South Brunswick police wrote. "On Friday, the snow will become a memory quickly as temps warm into the 40s."

Meanwhile, a larger storm is looming this weekend: The weekend storm is significant, but one that looks to feature rain to go along with wintry weather. The main risk for snow is Saturday afternoon and evening, before we go to mainly rain, police said. It may return to snow Sunday afternoon or evening.
