Over Half a Foot of Snow in the Hub City
Sidewalks must be shoveled within 12 daylight hours of the end of the storm to avoid a fine.

New Brunswick is digging out of more than half a foot of snow left behind by this much-discussed winter storm.
Public schools are closed today, Friday, Jan. 3, but many government offices are open, according to the mayor's office. However, it's advised to call ahead before coming to city hall or Civic Square.Â
Rutgers University is also closed through 5 p.m.
Free parking is available to city residents in eight parking decks around New Brunswick until 8 a.m. Saturday. Anyone wishing to park for free must show proof of New Brunswick residency upon entering the deck.Â
Businesses and homeowners with sidewalks running through their property must clear the snow and ice from the walks within 12 daylight hours of the end of the storm or risk a fine, according to the city.Â
The city council reorganization meeting scheduled for 4 p.m. today will proceed as scheduled, according to the mayor's office.Â
If you need to get on the Garden State Parkway, speed is reduced to 45 mph. Turnpike speed is reduced to 35 mph.Â
