Several Rutgers Players Face Fake Credit Card Probe: Report
As many as eight Rutgers players are being investigated in a probe by Rutgers police, according to an nj.com report.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Multiple players on the Rutgers football team are being investigated for the use of fraudulent credit cards, an anonymous source told NJ.com on Friday. The players being investigated have not been named, but this comes the same week two players were already kicked off the team Wednesday.
It has not been confirmed if those two players, sophomore linebacker Brendan DeVara and junior defensive back K.J. Gray, are among the several being investigated for credit card fraud. They were kicked off the team only for the vague reasoning of "violating team rules."
The probe is being conducted by the Rutgers University Police Department and could involve as many as eight players on the team, NJ.com was told.

Rutgers head football coach Chris Ash declined multiple attempts by NJ.com reporters for comment.
"We'll have no comment until the investigation is concluded," a Rutgers spokesman said when asked by Patch Friday morning about the matter.

Past Patch reporting: Two Players Kicked Off Rutgers Football Team
DeVara and Gray both released simultaneous statements on their Twitter accounts today saying they have been released from their Rutgers scholarships and are free to transfer to other schools.
Gray told NJ.com he was "very optimistic" about being able to get into a new program and said, "I'm just hoping somebody gives me a second chance." He also said his lawyer advised him to "to keep quiet about the situation.''
This is hardly the first scandal for the Rutgers football program: In 2015, up to eight players on the team were charged with assault, robbery and drug dealing. All were kicked off the team and head coach Kyle Flood was fired that same year.
