Student Submissions Sought for Safe Driving Contest

The contest is open to students at Rutgers University and Middlesex County College.

Students at Rutgers University and Middlesex County College are invited to design posters and radio public service announcements discussing the dangers of distracted walking and cycling for a contest offering cash prizes.

Young people between the ages of 16-25 are "especially at risk" of being involved in accidents stemming from distracted driving or walking, according to a press release from Middlesex County College.

The Middlesex County Comprehensive Traffic Safety Program is soliciting the ideas to use in their campaign against distracted driving. The first prize winner will receive $500, second prize is $300, and third prize is $200, according to the release.

“The significant rise in pedestrian accidents caused by walking and texting is a major concern and we hope that this awareness campaign will help change habits that place walkers at risk,” said Middlesex County Freeholder H. James Polos, chairman of Public Safety and Health.
