Teens: Apply Now For Middlesex County Conservation Corps

MIDDLESEX COUNTY, NJ — Is your teen looking for a fun and educational summer job, and one that will look great on college applications? Middlesex County is now accepting applications from students age 16 and older for the Middlesex County Youth Conservation Corps.
Applications are due by Friday, February 19.
The Conservation Corps is dedicated to protecting and preserving the more than 8,000 acres of Open Space owned and maintained by Middlesex County. The County recognizes that these natural areas must always be guarded from misuse, polluters and the forces of nature, and needs help in keeping these areas green and safe.

Conservation Corps crew members work Saturdays from April 10 through June 5, 2021 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and earn $12.50 per hour. Responsibilities include:
- Litter clean-up, recycling and brush removal
- Trail marking, building and maintenance
- Mapping/survey of existing trail system
- Plantings and reforestation management projects
- Wildlife habitat enhancement projects
- Invasive species management and removal

Job Title: Spring 2021 Youth Conservation Corps Crew Member
Objective: To protect and preserve the lands and natural areas acquired by the Middlesex County Open Space and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund.
Place of Work: Work will take place at several Middlesex County Open Space parcels in Old Bridge, East Brunswick, South Brunswick, Monroe Townships, and other county open space as needed. Hours Needed: Saturdays– April 10 – June 5, 2021; 9:00AM – 4:00PM
Qualifications:
• Applicants must be at least 16 years of age on start date
• Strong, enthusiastic, self-motivated, willing to work and learn as a part of a team • Willing to get dirty and work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Ability to walk several miles and stand for extended periods of time
• Ability to kneel and lift materials greater than 25 lbs
• Ability to use a variety of hand tools
• Ability to read, understand and follow written instructions and maps
Orientation and Training: Introduction to staff, instruction on daily projects; familiarization with trail tools and techniques; familiarization to open space property; instruction on map and survey reading; tool safety training.
Duties:
