2,200 Without Power In Ocean City As Powerful Storm Moves Through
Wind gusts of more than 60 mph have been recorded and more than 15,000 homes and businesses are without power in Cape May County.
OCEAN CITY, NJ — Nearly 15,000 homes and businesses were without power across Cape May County on Monday as storms packing powerful winds pushed through New Jersey.
The winds were so powerful they caused significant damage to Cape May's Congress Hall, tearing off part of the roof and knocking over lights.
Ocean City had more than 2,200 customers without power as of 12:45 p.m., according to Atlantic City Electric. The preliminary estimate of restoration is 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch for Cape May County and nearly all of New Jersey until 6 p.m. Read more: Tornado Watch Across NJ Through 6 PM

Residents said the wind was so strong it felt like being in a wind tunnel.

Gusts of up to 73 mph have been reported in Atlantic City, according to weather spotters. A weather spotter in Ocean City recorded a maximum gust of 64 mph.
