It's been a tough year, but these businesses stood out to readers as favorite places to eat, shop and support.

“How they give back to the community. They made over 1000 masks during the beginning of covid and gave them out for free. They also support the local community on a regular basis,” said customer Michelle Nap.

“The reason I'm nominating Mario's is because the new owners are dedicated to keeping a safe environment for both customers and staff. Their cleanliness and proactive approach to handling an eatery during a pandemic is unmatched. I'm proud to work for such amazing people,” said employee Leslie Michael.

Scrim Discovery Needlepoint

“This has been a tough year for everyone. Sally and her staff have worked hard to keep everyone safe. Knowing that, I have felt comfortable shopping at her store. Needlepointing is a way of life for those of us who stitch. It is so comforting to know Sally is always there to help. Needlepointing has kept me "good" busy while isolating for the past 9 months,” said customer Charleen McCall.

Kessel’s Korner

“Handling of pandemic to keep customers safe. Good home prepared food. Giving each customer a feeling of welcome and appreciation. Time to appreciate these folks and their hard work and year round business serving us on the worst of winter nights not just balmy summer flip flop days,” said customer Jayne Alexander.

Peace of Wood

"When we first went on lockdown and the schools went all Virtual, the owners Kristina and Marshall hosted live Instagram and Facebook art classes EVERY DAY for free for the community here locally and beyond. They brought laughter, music and art into everyone’s homes. They gave us a connection of community we had been missing since being quarantined and especially they brought huge smiles to our kids faces," said customer Court Lloyd.
