Cape May County Correctional Center Thwarts Efforts to Smuggle Drugs Through the Mail
Attempts to smuggle marijuana and tobacco into jail through the mail fails.

Cape May County Correctional Center staff thwarted attempts by two inmates to have marijuana and tobacco smuggled in through the mail.
Two packages arrived at the center on Aug. 22 from two different law firms, one from Linwood and one from Jackson, N.J. Both had Wildwood postmarks with similar markings.
The packages were delivered to the inmates; one signed for the package; the other refused receipt. The package signed for was opened in front of the inmate and contained a series of papers hollowed out containing pot and tobacco. Officers seized the contraband.

No one has been charged yet and the investigation is continuing by the Internal Affairs Unit of the Correctional Center.
“I continually praise the professionalism of our correctional officers and the difficult job they have maintaining order, keeping inmates safe, reducing contraband while balancing the rights of the inmates,” said County Sheriff Gary Schaffer. “These officers are commended for the job they do in not only this incident but daily. We will actively pursue any person attempting to smuggle in contraband to inmates.”
