Child Charged With Arson Of Ocean City Acme Parking Garage

The parking garage of Acme Markets in Ocean City caught fire on Sunday.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — A 12-year-old boy was charged with arson Monday in connection to a fire in the Acme Markets parking garage in Ocean City. Officials released the Ocean City boy into custody of his family pending juvenile court.

The boy was charged with two counts of aggravated arson and one count each of failure to report a fire, risking widespread injury and damage, aggravated assault and criminal mischief.

Authorities responded Sunday afternoon to a fire in the parking garage on 800 West Ave. No customers, employees or firefighters sustained injuries, but the store had to close. Read more: No Injuries Reported In Ocean City Acme Parking Garage Fire

The Ocean City Police and Fire Departments, state Fire Marshall's Office and the Cape May County Fire Marshall's Office completed a subsequent investigation to conclude the fire stemmed from arson.

Det. Sgt. Dan Lancaster and Det. Matthew Crowley arrested the boy Monday.
