Coastal Flood Advisory In Effect For Ocean City On Monday

Northeast winds gusting up to 45 mph and heavy rain are expected to contribute to flooding conditions.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood advisory for Ocean City in effect from 3-9 p.m. Monday. Northeast winds gusting up to 45 mph and heavy rain are expected to contribute to flooding conditions.

Forecasters expect water levels to peak around high tide on the bay side at 5:07 p.m. Monday. The NWS predicts a water level of 5.7 feet on the mean low water scale, indicating "minor" coastal flooding. By comparison, tides peaked last month at 5.82 feet.

Additionally, the remnants of former Hurricane Delta will move across New Jersey on Monday and Tuesday, bringing heavy rain and and thunderstorms across the Garden State. Read more: Hurricane Remnants To Bring Storms To NJ

The NWS predicts the following for Ocean City:

  • Monday: Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. High near 67. Windy, with a northeast wind 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
  • Monday night: Rain likely, mainly before 8pm, then a chance of showers after 11pm. The rain could be heavy at times. Cloudy, with a low around 63. Breezy, with an east wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 10 to 15 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Tuesday: A slight chance of showers before noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 72. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  • Tuesday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 53. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph.

Residents should monitor conditions and be prepared to move vehicles from areas that typically experience tidal flooding. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation.
