Ocean City Playoff Goes Without Fans Amid Coronavirus Concerns

New Jersey high-school sports are taking extra precautions as the novel coronavirus affects New Jersey.

DEPTFORD TOWNSHIP, NJ — Officials took extra precautions for the Ocean City High School girls basketball team's playoff game. Fans were prohibited from attending the match, which Ocean City won, 50-38.

The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association imposed the restriction as organizations take precautions for the novel coronavirus.

The state has confirmed 29 cases in New Jersey but none in Cape May County as of Thursday afternoon. Additionally, no positive cases have been identified in Gloucester County, where the game will take place.

Six additional cases were identified Thursday. Governor Phil Murphy recommended canceling all public gatherings of more than 250 people.
