Detours For Construction Around Ocean City Intermediate School

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The Bay Avenue Project began work Monday around Ocean City Intermediate School. Here's how that affects traffic.

Officials are completing work on Bay Avenue in front of the school. Temporary traffic patterns will be in place for two or three weeks, according to the City.

The following traffic patterns began Monday:

  • Bus traffic: Buses will approach the school going southward on Haven Avenue (from 17th Street) and will drop off and pick up children at the intersection of 18th Street and Haven Avenue. The buses will exit the drop-off location going eastward on 18th Street.
  • Parents' cars: The car drop-off will remain unchanged.
  • Crosswalks: The crosswalk locations will not change, except that the contractor will shift the location at 18th Street and Bay Avenue to ensure that the children are a safe distance from construction activities. The relocated crosswalk will be marked as such. Two crossing guards along with a police officer will be stationed at the intersection of Haven Avenue and 18th Street. A crossing guard and a police officer also will be stationed at the intersections of 20th Street and Bay Avenue and 18th Street and Bay Avenue. All other intersections shall be manned as they normally are.

Regular Bay Avenue traffic will be detoured to West Avenue between 24th and 14th streets during weekdays. The roadway will be open to local traffic and businesses.

Bay Avenue will be open in both directions on weekends.
