Driver Killed In Cape May County Crash

The vehicle struck an overpass and then hit a home in Middle Township, police said.

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Cape May Court House man died Tuesday morning after his vehicle struck an overpass and then hit a nearby home, police said. Jerry Jorgensen, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at about 8:15 a.m. on Route 147 and Massachusetts Avenue. Jorgensen's car struck the Garden State Parkway overpass before his vehicle hit a home. The hydraulic lift of the vehicle, used for dumpsters, struck the overpass, police said.

One person was in the home, but he or she wasn't injured. The crash remains under investigation.

Middle Township police and the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office examined the scene. The Rio Grande Fire Company, Cape May Court House Fire Company and Middle Township EMS also responded.
