OCEAN CITY, NJ — In 1972, Brant Alyea won the World Series with the Oakland Athletics. In 2019, he unknowingly lost his championship ring in Ocean City.

The former Major Leaguer was walking on the Ocean City Boardwalk with his grandchildren. An unknown woman later found the ring and gave it to Jackie Adams, a Department of Recreation ambassador.

As an avid sports fan, Adams knew this wasn't an ordinary class ring. The ring represented the A's seven-game World Series victory over the "Big Red Machine" Cincinnati Reds.

The A's featured future Hall of Famers such as Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter and Rollie Fingers. And Alyea was part of the effort, playing 20 games that season before retiring on top.

Adams used social media to find Alyea's daughter-in-law, Sabrina Huber. Then everyone met July 4 at the police station, where Alyea wore the ring once again.

It's unknown who gave the ring to Adams. But the OCPD said if she comes forward, she'll receive pizza, ice cream and amusement park rides on their dime.

Alyea, a Passaic native, played in the Majors in 1965 and then from 1968-1972. The outfielder's career also included time with the Washington Senators, Minnesota Twins and St. Louis Cardinals.

As the OCPD noted, the A's played in Philadelphia from 1901-1954. So it's more than OK for Philly fans to cheer for Alyea.
