Local Love Stories: Young Romance At The Wonderland Pier

"I was running the Tilt-a-Whirl, and she came on to my ride."

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we asked Patch readers to share their love stories.

Whether you’re a fan of Valentine’s Day or the thought of red and pink decorations makes you want to puke, we’ve got a hunch everyone could use some happy news this month. And what’s happier than a love story?

We asked Patch readers on Facebook to share their local love stories — how they met, where it all went down, and what’s kept them together. Here's the story of two Ocean City natives that fell in love as young teenagers at the Tilt-a-Whirl.

I met my now wife Robin in Ocean City in 1977 when I was working at Gillian's Fun Deck. I was 16 years old, and she was 14 years old. I was running the Tilt-a-Whirl, and she came on to my ride. She wanted to fix me up with her girlfriend but I was interested in her. We dated through high school. She was from Northeast Philadelphia. I was from Ocean City. We got married in October 1980. Our summer childhood romance has lasted almost 37 years. We now live in Florida, but still have sand in our toes for Ocean City.
