Longtime Food Critic Ed Hitzel Passes Away
The food critic and Longport native died suddenly Monday night.

Longtime food critic and Longport native Ed Hitzel died suddenly while eating at a restaurant in Hammonton Monday night, The Press of Atlantic City reports.
The former Press of Atlantic City editor suffered a fatal heart attack, according to the report.
He was the editor of Ed Hitzel’s Restaurant Magazine and hosted the Table for One radio show that aired on WOND-1400 AM and WIP-610 AM.

He began working at The Press in the early 1970’s after graduating from college. He left the paper in the early 1990’s, according to the report.
Hitzel was married to his wife, Susan, for 33 years. They had two adult children named Nicholas and Natalie, according to the report. The Hitzel Excellence Award was named after his father, Joe.
