NJ Weather: Severe Thunderstorm Watch In 10 NJ Counties

NEW JERSEY – A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for 10 New Jersey counties on Saturday since the 60-mph winds and hail were expected.

A severe thunderstorm warning was also issued for several New Jersey counties on Saturday, according to the National Weather Services.

Here are the alerted areas:

Damage to roofs, siding, trees and power lines is possible, and the severe storms could lead to power outages.

The worst of the storms was expected to occur after 4 p.m. on Saturday.

There will be several factors that will play a role in determining just how strong and widespread the storms become, according to AccuWeather. The evolution of the threat for severe weather on Saturday afternoon will be dependent on exactly how far a complex of rain and thunderstorms sweeping through the Great Lakes region advances.

More storms are also possible for Sunday.

• Saturday afternoon: Showers and thunderstorms possible before 4 p.m., then showers and possibly a thunderstorm between 4 and 5 p.m., then showers and thunderstorms likely after 5pm. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. High near 81. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Saturday night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 11 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 67. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
• Sunday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny, with a high near 83. West wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
