Ocean City Boys Basketball Team Unbeaten At Boardwalk Classic

The Red Raiders went 3-0 at the nation's largest high school co-ed tournament this holiday break.

OCEAN CITY, NJ - The Ocean City High School boys basketball team was undefeated at the nation's largest high school co-ed tournament this holiday break. The Red Raiders went 3-0 at the annual Boardwalk Basketball Classic at the Wildwoods Convention Center.

Ocean City opened with a 59-48 win over Kingsway in a Crest Savings Battle of the Boards Showcase game on Saturday, Dec. 22, according to the tournament’s official website.

Joey Sacco led the way with 18 points to go with two rebounds and two assists. Gannon Brady had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Ocean City then captured the Frank McAlarnen bracket title with wins over Burlington City and Boys Latin Charter (Pa).

First, Ocean City erased a 10-point first quarter deficit to edge Burlington City, 61-60. Burlington held a 19-9 lead at the end of the first, but the Red Raiders pulled to within 3 at halftime, 37-34.

Burlington stretched its lead to 56-45 at the end of the third, but a 16-4 fourth quarter in favor of Ocean City gave the Red Raiders the win. Donovan Graham lead Ocean City with 23 points, followed by Brady with 19.

Ocean City went on to defeat Boys Latin Charter (Pa), 59-52, in the final. Ocean City trailed by six at the end of the first quarter, but took the lead in the second and went on to victory. Graham led the way with 19 points, followed by Sacco with 13 and Brady with 10.

The Boardwalk Basketball Classic Tournament was founded in 2001 and continues to be the largest single-venue coed high school holiday basketball tournament in the United States. Since its inception, the tournament has raised nearly $300,000 in college scholarship money for graduating seniors at Wildwood and Wildwood Catholic high schools, the two host schools of the event.
