OCEAN CITY, NJ — With financial difficulties associated with the pandemic, this could be one of the most important holiday seasons in a long time for small businesses. Ocean City's "Earlier than the Bird" gives some of those businesses a chance to stand out before the holidays.

The downtown shopping extravaganza takes place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday from 6th to 11th Street on Asbury Avenue. As part of the tradition, shoppers can go in their pajamas for the chance to win prizes. That includes free turkeys for the best dressed.

Several major holiday events got canceled in Ocean City because of COVID-19. Officials canceled the Miracle on Asbury Avenue Celebration on Black Friday, the Christmas Parade and First Night and First Day celebrations. Read more: Ocean City Cancels Major Events, Reaches 40 Active COVID Cases
