OCEAN CITY, NJ — There's a three-day slate of Ocean City events involving skateboarding star Sky Brown and the 110th annual Baby Parade. Here's what to expect.

The Baby Parade returns at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The tradition offers a chance for parents to showcase Ocean City's newest generation. The parade features children 10 and under cruising through the boardwalk in themed strollers, wagons and floats.

Sky Brown, an 11-year-old skateboarding sensation with an international following, will serve as the parade's grand marshal. The parade begins at Sixth Street, with children finishing at the Music Pier (Moorlyn Terrace). All other entries continue to 14th Street. Online registration for entries is open until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6: www.ocnj.us/babyparade. Participants also can sign up at the Welcome Center on the ground floor of City Hall at Ninth Street and Asbury Avenue. Entry fee is $5 per child.

The parade is free to watch from either side of the boardwalk. Spectators can bring beach chairs to watch from the railing along the ocean side of the boardwalk. On the parade morning, the boardwalk will be closed to bicycling traffic at 10 a.m.

Marching bands from Pitman High School and Wildwood High School will participate, along with the Ed Coles Band and Fred Hall. The Give and Take Jugglers will perform inside the Ocean City Music Pier after the parade as participants wait for awards. Other highlights of the parade include the OCTC Spotlight Performers Show Choir, the cast of “Newsies,” Martin Z. and Mollie Mollusk, Queen Infanta 2019 Emma Rodriguez, the Ocean City Yacht Club and more.

Sky Brown

Brown is a professional skateboarder and surfer from Miyazaki, Japan. With a Japanese mother and a British father, she chose to compete for Team Great Britain in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, making her the youngest athlete to compete there. She will also be Great Britain's youngest Summer Olympian ever, and the youngest Olympic athlete since 1936.

Brown began skating and surfing at age two and quickly became a phenomenon when short videos of her gained millions of views on YouTube. In the fall of 2018, she became the first-ever winner of ABC’s hit competition show, “Dancing with the Stars: Juniors.” She continues to be the youngest athlete a number of brands have ever endorsed, including Nike, GoPro, Samsung. She hopes to continue making history while inspiring young girls and women to reach for their dreams and become unstoppable.

Her schedule will include the following:

Tuesday, August 6

  • 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Meet-and-greet at the Ocean City Skate Park (tickets are $30 each)
  • 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Skate Demonstration and open skating at the Skate Park with ticketholders
  • 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.: Skate Park closed for filming with TransWorld Sports

Wednesday, August 7

  • 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.: Meet-and-greet on Seventh Street Beach (tickets are $25 each)
  • 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Surfing demonstration and open surf with the participants

Thursday, August 8

  • 10:30 a.m.: Grand marshal of the 110th annual Baby Parade
  • Noon to 1 p.m.: Meet-and-greet at the Music Pier (tickets are $15 each)
  • 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.: Meet-and-greet at the Ocean City Skate Park (tickets are $30 each)
  • 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.: Skate Demonstration and open skating at the Skate Park with ticketholders

Tickets for these opportunities to meet, skate and surf with Sky are on sale now. Visit oceancityvacation.com/boxoffice, call 609-399-6111 or stop by the Ocean City Music Pier Box Office (Boardwalk at Moorlyn Terrace), the City Hall Welcome Center (9th Street and Asbury Avenue) or the Roy Gillian Welcome Center (on the Route 52 causeway). Tickets also will be available at the gate (for cash or check only).

The meet-and-greets will be held rain or shine. Due to safety, inclement weather could cancel the skateboarding demonstrations and open skate.

The public can watch Sky skate from outside the park gates. The hit British TV show “TransWorld Sport” will be film a full episode featuring Ocean City and Sky Brown at the Skate Park and Seventh Street Beach.

Pamper Scamper

Ocean City's annual baby crawling race goes off at 9 a.m. Tuesday, serving as a precursor to the parade. The event is free. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Sixth Street Beach.

The races are for babies up to 15 months old. For more information, call 609-399-6111.
