Ocean City Floods As Storm Passes Through

The National Weather Service expects rain throughout the day Thursday.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Some streets in Ocean City flooded Thursday morning as heavy rainfall passed through. The National Weather Service projects rain throughout the day.

Members of the Ocean City, NJ Flooding Facebook group uploaded photos of inundation on several parts of the island. Flooding included 31st to 33rd Streets by Haven and Simpson Avenues and 30th Street and Haven Avenue.

  • Thursday night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1am, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Patchy fog after 9pm. Low around 72. South wind around 5 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Friday: A chance of showers, mainly before 3pm. Patchy fog before 9am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
  • Friday night: A slight chance of showers before 3am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Northeast wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

The Ocean City, NJ Flooding Committee, a chapter of Higher Ground and a civilian group, encourages people to upload photos of flooding to ISeeChange.org, which investigates how weather and climate change impact communities.
