OCIS Named New Jersey Sustainable School

The Ocean City Intermediate School has been certified as one 111 Sustainable Jersey for Schools.

OCEAN CITY, NJ - Ocean City Intermediate School joins a group of schools across New Jersey focused on sustainability, according to a release from Ocean City Schools.

“Through the support of our superintendent, school board, the Ocean City and greater community, staff, and students we were able to achieve bronze certification for the second straight year," said Geoff Haines, Ocean City Intermediate School Principal, in the release.

In order for a school to classified as sustainable, they have to go through a checklist of items, including green design, diversity, innovation projects, student learning and many more, according Sustainable Jersey for Schools. Each action is worth ten points and 150 points are necessary to earn bronze certification.

"We were only one of three schools in the county to be recognized by Sustainable Jersey for Schools," Haines said in the release.
