Ocean City's K-5 Students Shift To 5 Days In-Person Next Week
The first phase of the reopening plan begins Monday, Feb. 1 as students in grades K-5 return to school five days a week.
OCEAN CITY, NJ — The first phase of the Ocean City School District's reopening plan begins Monday, Feb. 1 as students in grades K-5 return to school for in-person learning five days per week.
“Our recent survey results show near-unanimous support among our families for this move,” Superintendent Kathleen W. Taylor said in a letter to parents Tuesday. “Staff members are equally enthusiastic, and we’re preparing to make next Monday a celebratory day for our students.”
K-5 students in the two hybrid cohorts, O and C, will form one group to attend school together each day for in-person learning. More information about the upcoming schedule changes were detailed in Taylor’s letter.

The district has implemented safety measures in each classroom, including social distancing, mask wearing by all students and staff, desks facing in one direction and plexiglass shields for each student’s desk.
Additional PPE will be provided for teachers, including KN95 masks and face shields.

Though plexiglass barriers were already in the Primary School, they were also added to the Intermediate School this week.
Families will be contacted directly this week by the school if their student’s bus assignment is being changed in conjunction with the upcoming schedule modification.
"These are exciting steps, but we are not done. We will continue to do what we have done since the onset of the pandemic: keep the focus on our students," Taylor said.
