Upcoming Caregivers Support Group Helps Relieve Stress & Burnout

Group provides a welcome space for participants facing similar experiences

Caring for a loved one can be overwhelming and isolating. For those who take on the role of caregiver, they often face stress, guilt, and pressure that feels insurmountable.

This can lead to burnout, described as a physical, mental, or emotional state of exhaustion, or more concerningly, depression. Depression affects 20% - 40% of all caregivers, according to resource hub AgingInPlace.

A support system is in place for caregivers who need it. The Caregiver Support Group, hosted by Cape Assist, welcomes anyone currently caring for a loved one or a patient. Those interested are encouraged to join the FREE five-week group beginning Thursday, February 18, at 3 p.m. on Zoom.

During the meetings, participants will learn effective ways to reduce stress, receive valuable advice on managing challenging situations, and be introduced to local resources. This environment provides a welcome space to engage with others facing similar experiences. Topics up for discussion will include positive self-talk, self-regulating breathing techniques, support networks, guided imagery, and accessing resources.

The group will run each Thursdays through March 18. Those who complete the five weeks will receive a $50 gift card.
