Upcoming conference to focus on supporting youth during pandemic
The 7th Annual P.R.I.D.E. Conference is free. Educators, law enforcement, parents, and organizations serving youth are invited to join.
An annual conference to address the needs of youth will have a very timely focus when it is held virtually on Jan. 21.
Supporting Cape May County Youth During a Global Pandemic is the theme of the 7th Annual P.R.I.D.E. Conference, which is open to educators, law enforcement, parents, and organizations that serve young people. The conference will concentrate on the elevated needs of youth during this critical time and will provide action steps to help those who are most vulnerable.
The half-day program will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. After the welcome and speaker introductions, the conference will start with a panel discussion titled COVID – Community, Outreach, Vision, Insight & Developments, where community leaders will share how they have navigated the pandemic while serving youth.

Panelists will include J. Kenyon Kummings, Superintendent, Wildwood Public Schools; Joseph Castellucci, Superintendent, Lower Cape May Regional School District; Jeffrey H. Sutherland, Cape May County Prosecutor; Dr. Thomas Dawson Jr., Senior Pastor, The SOAR Church; Kevin Thomas, Public Health Coordinator, Cape May County Department of Health; and Temerity Ennis-Berry, Senior Prevention Specialist at Cape Assist.
Following the panel discussion, the presentation Generation Z: Working with Today’s Youth will examine the evolution of society and how it has impacted this generation of 10- to 22-year-olds and shaped their world views. The presentation will also offer advice to participants on how to effectively reach this group.

Hosted by the Cape May County P.R.I.D.E. (Prevention, Resources, Innovation, Development, Education) Committee, the virtual conference is free and will be held on Zoom. Certificates of attendance will be available upon request. To register for the conference, visit: www.capeassist.org/pride2021.
The Cape May County P.R.I.D.E. Committee was formed in 2013 in response to the growing opioid crisis. The committee focuses on generating awareness and educating the public on opioid misuse, risk and protective factors for youth. The committee is funded through the Sea Isle City Board of Education, and members include the Sea Isle City Board of Education, the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, the Cape May County Office of Education, County Educators, the County Department of Human Services, and Cape Assist.
