What's Open On New Year's Day In Ocean City: Shopping, More

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Jan. 1 might be the first day of a new decade, but that doesn't mean everything opens right away. Several chain restaurants, grocery stores and retailers will be open in Ocean City on New Year's Day, while some public services won't operate.

You are encouraged to call ahead and confirm the hours with small businesses and specific locations, since times may still vary.

Public Services and Recreation

• City offices: closed.
• Aquatic and Fitness Center: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• Skate Park: open.
• Sports and Civic Center: 12-5 p.m.
• Welcome centers at City Hall and Music Pier: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• Welcome Center on Route 52 Causeway: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• schools: closed.
• post offices: closed.
• Ocean City Free Public Library: closed
• trash and recycling pickup: pushed back to Jan. 2.

Shopping and More

Ocean City will hold an all-day "shopping extravaganza" with discounts at stores on Asbury Avenue and the boardwalk from 5th to 14th streets.

Free horse-drawn carriage rides will also be offered from 12-3 p.m. Board in front of City Hall.
