RED BANK, NJ - At least 55 students and three staff members at Red Bank Regional High School are self-quarantining following a report of one positive case at the high school last week.

In an Oct. 2 message posted to the district website, Superintendent Lou Moore notified families that 58 Red Bank Regional community members have been directed to self-quarantine until Oct. 9 in order to “minimize transmission risks.”

“I will continue to do my best and I am glad that our school Pandemic Response Team met today under the capable leadership of Assistant Principal Robert Donohoe to provide feedback and advice,” Moore wrote. “Thanks again to everyone this week for doing your part to keep us safe and on course in difficult seas.”

In-person instruction and athletic practices resumed last week to the 1,200 Red Bank, Shrewsbury and Little Silver students, according to Moore's message. The school district shut its doors to in-person instruction last Tuesday and Wednesday following reports of a ninth grade student who tested positive for COVID-19.

Last week, Moore also wrote in an update that eight student-athletes at the high school also came in contact with an non-RBR student who also tested positive for the virus. Read more: 8 RBR Students Came Into Contact With COVID Case At Sports Game

In a Sunday evening message to district families at neighboring Red Bank Borough Public Schools, superintendent Jared J. Rumage also disclosed that an individual at Red Bank Middle School also tested positive for COVID-19. The school district is working alongside public health officials to limit the spread of the virus, according to Rumage.

“The individual will spend the required time in isolation and the close contacts will be subject to a 14-day quarantine,” Rumage wrote. “Cleaning and disinfecting of the building were completed on Friday evening as per our normal schedule. In addition, with an abundance of caution, we cleaned and disinfected specific areas of the building on Sunday.”

Students in select grade six homerooms were put on an all-remote schedule as a result of the new case. Affected Cohort A grade six students will return to in-person instruction on Oct. 12 and Cohort B grade six students will follow on Oct. 15. Click here for the updated schedule.
