Wednesday night was Cindy Burnham's first Red Bank Borough Council meeting; and she took care of some official business right off the bat.
The council's sole seated Republican now, Burnham settled in by offering a resolution, which passed unanimously, proclaiming February T. Thomas Fortune month.
Fortune, an African-American civil rights activist and journalist, lived in a house on Drs. James Parker Boulevard that a contingent of history buffs is trying to save.
So far, the group has raised $4,000 toward the cause. It's a start, said leader Sarah Klepner. But, she said, the group is estimating the cost to repair the shuttered home will be upward of $600,000.
Councilman Ed Zipprich has also been a champion of the cause to save the Fortune house.
