In front of an overflow crowd of family, friends, officials and police from several surrounding towns, Darren McConnell was sworn in as Red Bank's new police chief.
McConnell succeeds Chief Steve McCarthy, who passed away in September. McCarthy's family was present in a special show if support for McConnell, 44, who has been with the Red Bank force since the age of 19 when he was hired as a patrolman. He was the department's captain until now. McConnell is a longtime Red Bank resident.
Patch will be featuring a video if the event. Stay tuned. Do you know where McConnell went to high school? Take a guess.
Congrats, Chief!
