Red Bank Police Report Potential Grinch Stole Package Off Porch

It is not just an urban myth. It is not something that happens in other towns. Red Bank police respond to theft of packages.

RED BANK, NJ - Borough police have joined authorities in just about every department in the region in warning people to beware of package thieves who remove gifts right off front porches or front steps. Now Red Bank police are reporting it has happened locally.

Police said that on Dec. 8, in the area of Spring Street, a property owner reported that a package had been delivered to the front doorstep and then someone cut it from the bottom and removed items from the box.

The package items were valued at $79. Patrolman Nicholas Maletto took the report.

If you check the Facebook page of many of the local departments, they will include suggestions for how to thwart package theives that include having your package delivered to the local store and picking it up there or having your package delivered to you at work, if permitted.

Some other suggestions include having your package delivered to the home of a neighbor or relative, authorities said.
