That student may have infected "a number of classmates," said Red Bank superintendent Louis Moore in a statement Tuesday night.

RED BANK, NJ — Red Bank Regional High School abruptly announced it is canceling the in-person graduation scheduled for this Thursday after one of its graduating seniors tested positive for COVID-19.

That student may have infected "a number of classmates," said Red Bank superintendent Louis Moore in a statement Tuesday night.

"Early this week, it was reported that one of our senior students tested positive for COVID-19 and potentially had exposure to a number of classmates. Based on consultation with the Monmouth County Regional Health Commission and local authorities, we are canceling the in-person commencement ceremony that was planned for this Thursday, July 16," wrote Moore in a note posted on the school district's website Tuesday night.

"Although disappointing, we must continue to prioritize the health and safety of our students and staff," he said.

At this time, there will not be a make-up date for Red Bank's graduation ceremony. Middletown North and South students graduated in person without a hitch earlier this July.
