RED BANK, NJ – Students at Red Bank Regional High School will return to in-person instruction later than expected, according to a recent letter sent to district families.

Students at the high school are now scheduled to begin in-person classes on Sept. 15 instead of Sept. 10, according to Red Bank Regional High School Superintendent Louis Moore in letter.

Remote learning will begin on Sept. 10 through Sept. 14, with a normal hybrid bell schedule to begin the next day, the superintendent wrote.

The delay comes amid delivery issues with specialized walk-through thermometers, which would allow students and staff to be screened for higher-than-normal temperatures upon entry.

While five walk-through units were ordered in early July with an expected delivery date “no later” than Sept. 5, a delivery update revealed this week that the expected arrival has been moved to Sept. 12.

“We anticipate that this will require the delay of the start for in-person learning to Tuesday, September 15,” Moore wrote.

Additional updates will be provided on Sept. 9, according to the administrator.

Red Bank Regional High School serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from the municipalities of Little Silver, Red Bank and Shrewsbury. As of 2018, it had an enrollment of approximately 1,200.

“We share your disappointment in this news and appreciate your patience and understanding. As has been noted previously, the safety and health of everyone will continue to be our first priority during this school-year,” Moore wrote.

This is a developing story. Check back with Patch later for updates.
