Robert Edward Billings, World War II Veteran, Dies At 96

A memorial service for the Red Bank resident is slated for July 14.

Robert Edward Billings passed peacefully on February 8, 2018 at The Atrium at Navesink Harbor in Red Bank, NJ. He was 96.

Bob was born and raised in Collingswood, NJ. He graduated from Princeton University, class of 1943. During World War II he served as a sergeant in the Field Artillery and then as a 2nd lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. He was a bombardier on a 10-man B-24 crew.

He married Elizabeth T. Quinn in 1947. In 1958, he bought the Doctors Exchange and Telephone Service in Perth Amboy which he owned until his retirement in 1983. Bob lived in Tinton Falls from 1955-2005 and moved to Navesink Harbor in 2006. He was an original member of the Monmouth Regional High School Board and served for 22 years. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Red Bank for 66 years. What gave Bob great pleasure in life was to be with family and friends.

Bob is survived by his wife of 70 years, Betty; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Joe Bruccoleri of Tinton Falls; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Ruth Billings, Jr. of Red Bank and O. George and Debbie Billings of Bear, DE; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.There will be a Memorial Service for family and friends on July 14 at 11:00 at Tower Hill First Presbyterian Church in Red Bank. Arrangements entrusted to Oceanside Memorial Home, Lake Como.
