Rabid Raccoon Found Near Old Georges Road
The animal was found on Saturday; it tested positive for rabies, officials said.

A raccoon, found near Old Georges Road and Adams Lane, has tested positive for rabies.
The animal was found Saturday in North Brunswick, several miles away from the South Brunswick border.
It’s the first rabid animal found in North Brunswick this year, but the eighth found in the county. Several of those cases have been in South Brunswick and East Brunswick.

According to a news release from the county:
On Saturday, the North Brunswick Animal Control officer was called to a residential neighborhood because the raccoon appeared be sick and had a wobbly gate.

The raccoon died and was sent to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing. The test results came back Tuesday and were positive for rabies.
“There are no known human or animal exposures to this animal,” the news release said.
Residents should call police if they see wild animals exhibiting unusual behavior. Residents should also avoid contact with wild animals and immediately report any bites. Pet owners must make sure their animals have up-to-date vaccinations.
