106-Degree Heat Index: NJ Weather Gets Very Hot
We're dealing with intense heat, and it's supposed to get worse. Find out where and when.
NEW JERSEY – That ugly weather that's been lingering in New Jersey is just going to get worse.
A hazardous weather outlook and a heat warning have been issued in New Jersey for the next three days as the heat index is supposed to zoom past 106 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
The heat index, which takes the real temperature and humidity into account, has already hit 106 degrees in parts New jersey, and it's supposed to get worse during the Sunday-through-Tuesday time period.

On Sunday, the heat index was supposed to be at its worst at 2 p.m. on Sunday, 2 p.m. on Monday and 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Here is where it stood at 12 noon on Sunday:

Here is what you should also expect:
- WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values higher than 105 expected.
- IMPACTS...Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
- ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The dangerously hot conditions are expected to continue on Tuesday, and thunderstorms are possible on Tuesday after 11 a.m.
- A warning or advisory may need to be extended as we get closer. Temperatures overnight are only expected to drop into the mid 70s, so there will be little relief from the heat even through the overnight hours.
Those in the Northeast who are not fans of the heat and humidity will not have to wait too long for the pattern to change, according to AccuWeather. Colder air is expected to arrive on Wednesday.

- Monday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 74. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
- Tuesday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11am. Mostly sunny, with a high near 94. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
- Tuesday night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 72. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
