19-Year-Old Dies, 5 Hurt In Pontoon Crash On Barnegat Bay: Police

Corey Molinari, 19, of Whippany, died after the pontoon hit a waterway marker near the Route 37 bridge, New Jersey State Police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — One person was killed and five others were injured early Sunday when a pontoon boat struck a waterway marker in Barnegat Bay near the Route 37 bridge, New Jersey State Police said Monday.

Corey Molinari, 19, of Whippany, was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he succumbed to injuries he suffered in the crash, Sgt. Alejandro Goez said.

The crash, which was reported at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, threw two of the other five people onboard into the water, Goez said. One of the five suffered what Goez said were moderate injuries, and the other four suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.

The crash remains under investigation, Goez said.
