2 Hurt As 2 Cars Run Red Light In Toms River Crash: Police

Three vehicles were involved the crash at the intersection of Whitesville Road and Ridgeway Road, police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Two people were injured in a three-vehicle crash after two people ran a red light Monday morning at the intersection of Whitesville Road and Ridgeway Road, Toms River police said.

Laurie Heller, 36, and Patricia Monaghan, 51, both of Toms River, were taken to the hospital following the crash that happened about 7:20 a.m. Monday, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

Heller was stopped in the intersection, waiting to turn left from Ridgeway Road onto Whitesville Road when her vehicle was hit by ones driven by Monaghan and by Christian Walko, 23, of Seminole, Florida, Messina said.

Walko was in the left lane and Monaghan was in the right lane, both heading west on Ridgeway Road, when both kept going on Ridgeway after the traffic signal turned from amber to red, Messina said.

Heller, who was trying to lawfully make a left turn, was hit and her vehicle came to rest on its side along the curb. Walko and Monaghan both received summonses for failure to obey a traffic signal, she said.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Robert Westfall.
