3 From Same Family Killed In Toms River Crash

The three people, all Chinese citizens, were passengers in a car involved in the crash on Lakehurst Road, police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ ? Three Chinese citizens were killed early Friday morning in a crash involving a tow truck and a car on Lakehurst Road, Toms River police said Friday night.

The three people ? a 54-year-old man, a 52-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, all members of the same family ? died at the scene of the crash at Hospital Drive that was reported at 12:25 p.m., said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.

The three were passengers in a car driven by Tina Dung, 21, of Maryland, Messina said.

The investigation showed Dung had stopped for the traffic light at the intersection, then drove through the red traffic signal into the path of a Legacy Towing flatbed wrecker that was headed east on Lakehurst Road, Messina said.

Neither Dung nor the driver of the wrecker showed signs of impairment, she said.

Dung suffered minor injuries as a result of the accident; she received a ticket for failure to observe a traffic signal, Messina said.

The crash remains under investigation by Toms River Cpl. Terry Warren and Police Officer Michael Cassidy and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
