Alice S. Taylor, Who Helped In Founding Community Memorial Hospital, Dies At 106
She was a member of several organizations, including the American Red Cross Gray Lady Service during World War II.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Funeral services have been set for Thursday for Alice Susan Taylor, who was actively involved with the founding of Community Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Taylor died Monday; she was 106 years old.
Alice was a charter member of the Dogwood Twig at Community Memorial Hospital, where her husband was chief of surgery and served on the hospital's board from 1953 to 1971. Alice was instrumental in founding Community Medical Center (formerly named Community Memorial Hospital).
Alice was a long-time member of the Lakewood YWCA; traveled from 1934-1936 with the federal theater; and served as a member of the American Red Cross Gray Lady Service during World War II. She was a member of the Modern Muses, a federated Women's Club and a member of the Toms River Yacht Club.

Alice was born on June 11, 1911, in Lakewood to Thomas and Amacia Chadwick, and lived there until she married Dr. Raymond Taylor in 1937. Later they moved to Toms River where they raised their children.
Alice is predeceased by her siblings, Marion Cunningham, and Thomas K. Chadwick Jr.

She is survived by her children, Susan L. Taylor, Karen T. Johnson, and Raymond C. Taylor; her grandchildren, Jennifer R. Anderson and husband Daniel; Laura Johnson Scoles and husband Jason; and Chadwick A. Taylor; and her great-grandchildren, Christopher D. Anderson, and Brooke T. Scoles. She is also survived by her devoted and loving friend Orysya Rybachuk.
Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Sept. 7 at D'Elia Funeral Home, 1300 Vermont Ave., Lakewood. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation.
