Candid Obituary Reveals Toms River Man's Heroin Overdose In Hopes Of Helping Others

"If Chris's death saves one other individual or family from going through this heartache, it will have given his life meaning," his mom said

TOMS RIVER, NJ — An Ocean County mother is hoping to help save other families from heartache by going public with the loss of her son to heroin addiction.

In his obituary published on the Timothy E. Ryan Home For Funerals website, Margaret Dishon Superior writes candidly about of Christopher Dishon, a 22-year-old from Toms River, who died due to an overdose on April 27:

"As with many young people who are fighting this disease, he believed he was invincible. 'It will never happen to me, Mom,' " his mother wrote.

Christopher Charles Dishon was born Dec. 24, 1994 and "had a smile that lit up any room he entered," his mother wrote.

"He was a kind and gentle soul who saw only the good in others. Anyone who ever came in contact with Chris knew he had a heart of gold," she wrote.

"Chris struggled with this demon for many years," she wrote, urging donations to City of Angels NJ, which assists those struggling with addiction, those in recovery, and their families.

"If Chris’s death saves one other individual or family from going through this heartache, it will have given his life meaning," she wrote.

Christopher Dishon was born in San Antonio, Texas, and graduated from St. Joseph Grade School in Toms River and Lacey Township High School.

He is survived by "his proud and loving mother, Margaret Dishon Superior; his stepfather, Theodore Superior; his sister and best friend, Alicia Dishon; his devoted auntie and “second mother,” Rita Dishon; his dear cousin, Rosie “Roz” Dishon; his Pop-pop, Charles V. Dishon; his stepbrother, Michael Superior; his stepsister, Christine Miller and her husband Scott, and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins."

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 685 Hooper Avenue, Toms River. Interment will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park.
