Verizon crews were on Route 166 Monday working on the damaged cable, according to photos published by Exit 80 Scanner News.

Restoring a damaged fiber optic cable requires extensive work, as each cable is made up of many individual strands of fibers which need to be matched up and repaired," a Verizon spokesman told the Virginian-Pilot regarding a repair to a cut cable in Virginia.

The strong storm that moved through the area has hampered repairs, because of the danger of being in the air when winds are blowing at 35 mph or more.
