Driver Indicted For Fleeing Scene Of Crash That Killed Toms River Man

A 911 caller was able to provide a description of the flatbed truck after the fatal crash in July, prosecutors said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ ? A grand jury has indicted an Atlantic County man for fleeing the scene after he struck and killed a Toms River man with a flatbed truck this summer, officials said.

The crash happened in Mays Landing at approximately 9:12 p.m. on Monday, July 10, said the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office. Officials said 51-year-old Jermaine Goines of Toms River was walking eastbound on Route 40, when he was struck and killed by the flatbed truck.

The truck fled the scene, but a 911 caller was able to provide a description of the truck
and which direction it was going, officials said. Officers from the Hamilton Township Police Department located the truck approximately three miles away and took the driver into custody, according to prosecutors.

An Atlantic County jury indicted the driver, Timothy J. Schellinger, for second-degree leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash.

The prosecutor's office said Schellinger, 44, of Tuckahoe, was indicted on Thursday, Dec. 21.
