Fire Damages Home In East Dover Section

The Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention is investigating the cause of the fire, officials said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Authorities are searching for the cause of a fire that damaged a home in the East Dover section of Toms River early Tuesday morning, officials said.

The fire was reported about 2:15 a.m. after smoke detectors alerted the occupant of the home on Buermann Avenue, who got out of the house and called 911, officials with the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention said. The man was not injured, authorities said.

Firefighters from East Dover Fire Company, Toms River Fire Companies 1 and 2, Island Heights and Silverton volunteer fire companies responded.

Toms River police and the fire prevention bureau are investigating the cause and origin of the fire, officials said.

"This is a friendly reminder to please make sure your smoke detectors are working and have fresh batteries in them." officials said.
