Funeral Services Set For Dr. John A. Pino Of Toms River
Dr. Pino had a family practice in Toms River and helped train doctors and nurse practitioners at Monmouth and Rowan universities.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Funeral services have been set for Friday for Dr. John Anthony Pino of Toms River, a career family doctor, who died Dec. 1, 2017 following a long battle with cancer. He was 70.
According to his obituary on the Silverton Memorial Funeral Home website, Dr. Pino was born in Hammonton on Nov. 28, 1947 to Joseph and the late Grace Pino. He graduated Hammonton High School in 1965 and Rutgers University with a bachelor's degree in 1969. He attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1973. In 1974, he moved his family to Toms River to begin his long career as a family physician.
Throughout his career as a family practitioner, Dr. Pino spent time training young doctors and nurse practitioners within his practice, many of whom are his peers today. Dr. Pino also was an assistant professor at Rowan School of Osteopathic Medicine in New Jersey and The New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He was also a graduate nursing preceptor for Monmouth University.

Along with his training, Dr. Pino was very active in the community as well. Dr. Pino used to lecture on many clinical topics, including Alzheimer’s dementia, pharmacological agents for smoking cessation, hyperlipidemia, adult asthma, and herpes zoster.
Dr. Pino was active with the Boy Scouts of America, helping the young Scouts with their yearly physical exams. He was one of the original four physician practices to attain the Patient Center Medical Home from the NCQA. He was actively involved in the transformation of medical practices. He participated with the Comprehensive Primary Care for since 2011. For these, and many other outstanding efforts in his practice, he has received numerous awards, including the. PressGaney Guardian of Excellence in 2016 and 2017 and the Community Medical Center Physician of Distinction Award in 2015.

But his greatest source of pride was always his family. Dr. Pino leaves behind his loving wife, Donna (Caruso) of 47 years. He is survived by his father Joseph Pino, of Hammonton, and his brothers Joseph Pino Jr. of Folsom, and Ben Pino of Deptford. He also leaves behind his children, Dr. Joseph and Natalie Pino, of Wilmington, NC; Michael and Melissa Pino, of Pensacola, FL; and David and Hitomi Pino, of Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Pino was known as “Grampy” to the lights of his life, his grandchildren Alexandra, Richard John, Louie and Ella Pino.
Viewing will be held at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Rd., Toms River, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec 8. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 685 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, beginning at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017.
