Hours at Disaster Recovery Centers to Change

Set up to provide assistance in towns affected by Hurricane Sandy, the recovery centers are introducing new, reduced hours.

Disaster Recovery Centers opened in towns affected by Hurricane Sandy are subject to new, reduced hours of operation beginning Monday, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced Thursday.

On Monday, April 8, all of New Jersey's remaining disaster recovery centers will operate from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Saturday hours will remain 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Previously, the centers were open an additional hour on weekdays.

Now, six months following Sandy, nine disaster recovery centers remain open throughout the state, located in towns in Monmouth, Ocean, Atlantic, Cape May, and Hudson Counties.

There have been more than 85,000 visits to New Jersey centers since opening in early November, according to FEMA.

Those looking for the disaster recovery center closest to them can visit FEMA.gov/DRC or call 800-621-3362.

Survivors can check on the status oftheir disaster assistance applications at DisasterAssistance.gov, by using a smartphone or tablet at m.FEMA.gov, or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), TTY 800-462-7585 or 711/VRS. Survivors also can call those numbers to inquire about rental recertification.

Questions about Small Business Administration disaster home or business loan applications be asked by calling 800-659-2955 or TTY 800-877-8339 or emailing disastercustomerservice@sba.gov.

Survivors who have questions about flood insurance claims and the appeals process can call the National Flood Insurance Program 888-379-9531.
