TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Seaside Heights man has been ordered held until trial in connection with a stabbing in Seaside Park on June 30, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office announced Tuesday.

Porfirio Serrano-Cruz, 38, who is facing charges including attempted murder, was ordered to remain in the Ocean County Jail by Superior Court Judge Michael T. Collins pending trial.

Serrano-Cruz also is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, burglary and possession of clonazepam without a valid prescription, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Seaside Park police responded to a 911 call about 5:15 a.m. Thursday from a man who said someone had broken into his home on O Street and tried to kill him, Billhimer said.

The 39-year-old man had multiple stab wounds to the arms, chest, abdomen and groin and was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where he was treated for critical injuries, Billhimer said.

Detectives determined Serrano-Cruz was the person who had stabbed the victim, but Billhimer has not given any information on how they came to that determination or what the motivation may have been.

Serrano-Cruz was found in Seaside Heights and arrested by Seaside Heights police.

The detention hearing was handled by Assistant Prosecutor Brandon DeJesus.
