OCEAN COUNTY, NJ — New data has been released that shows the coronavirus continues to have an impact on Ocean County (see town-by-town totals below).

Ocean County reported 51,111 cases on Friday, an increase of 1,494, or 3.01 percent, over the previous week, which was 49,617.

The disease’s impact is reflected in the state Department of Health's most recent "COVID-19 Activity Level Report," which is issued weekly. The most recent report, released Thursday, says Ocean County is in the orange zone, which calls the activity level high.

A county's overall activity in the orange zone is a combination of three categories: case rate, percentage of COVID-like illnesses, and the percent positivity.

Central East, which includes Ocean County, remains in the high zone because the case rate is 28.54 per 100,000 people. The case rate falls into the "very high" zone, though the rate continues to fall. Last week the Central East case rate was 31.99.

The percentage of COVID-like illnesses continues to decrease in the Central East, from 5.29 in last week's report to 5.20 this week, and the percent positivity fell from 8.86 last week to 8.23 this week.

While school districts in high-risk zones are urged to take stricter measures to limit the spread of the coronavirus, the continued decreases have been seen as encouraging, and several Ocean County districts have started to move to four days a week of in-person instruction. Most of those are half-days for now.

Brick Township moved to four days a week last Monday, and Toms River and Manchester are scheduled to move to four days beginning Monday. The fifth day, on Fridays, is fully remote to allow for deep cleaning.

Ocean County officials provided the following breakdown of cases by town. In parentheses is the number of cases for the town as of Feb. 26. If the town shows a decrease, it reflects a correction based on the person's actual address as opposed to mailing address.
