Toms River Man's Arm Partially Amputated In Route 37 Crash
The man told police he was cut off before he ran off the road; his car flipped and he had to be pulled out through a back door, police said.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River man's arm was partially amputated after his car flipped over in a Route 37 crash Saturday evening in Toms River, police said.
Gabriel S. Frigerio 3rd, 38, had to be pulled from the vehicle through the back door by Toms River Police Officers Scott Devecka and Officer Brian Elwood, who found him conscious but trapped and bleeding profusely from his arm, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.
Once they pulled Frigerio out of the vehicle, Devecka immediately applied a tourniquet to his arm to stop the excessive bleeding, she said. He was was flown to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and was listed as stable as of Saturday night.

The crash happened shortly before 6 p.m. at Pisces Seafood Restaurant, 3400 Route 37. Frigerio was driving west on Route 37 and told police a vehicle cut him off, causing him to swerve off the road.
He hit a curb and a large decorative cleat at the base of the driveway to the restaurant, which caused his car to flip onto its roof. The car slid across the driveway and hit the opposite curb and flipped back onto its wheels befor hitting a large, decorative chain in the parking lot of Pisces before coming to a rest, Messina said.

Frigerio was wearing his seatbelt, and there was no evidence to suggest he was under the influence of alcohol or any intoxicating substance at the time of the crash, she said. There also was no evidence that he was using a cell phone while driving, she said.
The Ocean County Sheriff's Office Crime Scene Investigation also responded. Toms River Traffic Safety Officer PJ Gambardella is investigating.
